Description SHEMAKHA runners, Caucasus, early 19th century; made in the town of Shemakha, near the coast of the Caspain Sea. This is one of the pileless rugs made in the Near East [Soumail, per Bruce Howe]; the other is called Kilim. The medium blue field has all over geometrical designs, with muted colors of orange, green and ivory. One border is called the Greek Key design; the other Latch hook design. Fine specimen of its class. Size 4 ft wide x 9 ft 3 in. long. (John H. Kazanjian, 1990)

Colors: navy blue, etruscan red, orange, tan-taupe, pink, yellow ochre, blue-grey green. (Faust and Humphreys, 1999)
