ULAN ID: 500021703 Joseph Blackburn was born and trained in England, painted in Bermuda in 1752 and in America 1754-62 where he appears to have divided his time between Boston and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. There are about 80 portraits by Blackburn in America, most of them signed. His work is owned by the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Museum of Art of the Rhode Island School of Design, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Worcester Art Museum.
