LCC ID: n2010031155 William Allen Wall (1801-1885). Painter. Born in New Bedford, MA in 1801. He was apprenticed to a watchmaker, but ealry turned his attendtion to painting. He studied with Thomas Sully, and went to Europe in 1831. He returned to New Bedford in 1833. About 1840 he copied Stuart's "Lansdowne Washinigton"; his portrait of N.P. Willis painted in Italy in the New York Historical Soceity. He died in New Bedford in 1885. Several of his portraits are owned by Dartmouth College (Who was who in art) |
