William Johnson Walker, M.D. (1790-1865) was a Graduate of Harvard College, A.M., 1810; M.D., 1813. He spent the latter years of his life in Newport as a consequence of his involvement with extending a Massachusetts railroad line to a terminus in Newport (the Old Colony and Fall River Railroad). Significance: William Johnson Walker, M.D. was a distinguished benefactor of the Redwood Library; his bequest of $10,000 was one of the largest monetary gifts received as of that date. |
