Considered to be America’s first architect, Peter Harrison (1716-1775) designed the Redwood Library, Touro Synagogue, and Brick Market in Newport. This painting is a copy after a 1756 portraitby Nathaniel Smibert. Portrait, copy from Nathaniel Smibert's 1756 portrait. Adult male subject. Waist length view. He is turned 3/4ths to this left. He is wearing a wig, white shirt, brown waistcoat, and brown coat. The background is a dark yelllowish green. Attributed to Louis Sands. Marked on lower left and right in oil paint including multiple names |
