View of the stone tower with surrounding structures and a view to the sea; in foreground men raking hay into carriage with an ox. Stone Tower is located in Touro Park. There is much controversary about the origins and purpose of the structure but it is known to predate the Revolutionary War. Formerly attributed to Gilbert Stuart. |

2006, November 11 - This painting is given to the Redwood Library in honor of Lawrence Phelps Tower II and Helen Tower Wilson Donor Julie Gilmour Bowen received the painting as a gift from her mother Helen Tower Wilson in 2006. Mrs. Wilson inherited the painting from her father Lawrence P. Tower in 1973. Mr. Towere purchased the painting in 1938 from an Art Gallery on east 57 |
