Alan Pryce-Jones (1908-2000), London-born book critic, author, journalist and veteran of World War II was editor of The Times Literary Supplement from 1948-59. In addition to his tenure at the Times he was a book critic for The New York Herald Tribune, The World Journal Tribune and Newsday and a theater critic for Theater Arts. He also wrote reviews and essays for The New York Times Book Review. Although he remained a British citizen, he moved to New York in 1960 and later to Newport, Rhode Island where he remained until his death. Portrait. Adult Male Seated Subject. Waist-length view. Turned 3/4th view to his left. Eyes are gazed off to his upper left. His left arm rests on an arm of a couch (?). Both hands are clasps mid air in front of his chest. He has blue eyes and grey hair and wears a white short sleeve collared shirt. Also wears a watch on his left wrist. Background is pale green and white. |
